Think you know about the Kentucky Derby?

Hats and Hooves, the May 2 fundraiser for Communities In Schools of Coweta County, is all about raising funds for a great cause while also enjoying an evening of fun centered around the Kentucky Derby. Here are some things you may not know about this year's Kentucky Derby!

• The 2015 race will mark the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby.

• Each year, 20 horses have the chance to run in the Kentucky Derby. To earn a spot, horses compete in a series of 35 designated races at tracks across the country and around the world. Points are awarded to the top four finishers in each race, and the 20 horses with the most points get to compete in Kentucky the first Saturday in May!

• The Mint Julep has been the traditional beverage for the Kentucky Derby for nearly a century.

• The Kentucky Derby has been called "The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports," but for fashion lovers, the Derby is also one of the best people-watching events in the world because of its world-class hats!

Hats and Hooves is planned for Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 5-10 p.m. at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum in Newnan, and we'll be revealing more of our plans for this year's event as the big day approaches!
